Different Types of Tiles

There are numerous types of tiles that are manufactured in various ways and have distinct properties. Ceramic, porcelain, concrete, and terrazzo are the four primary types of tiles. If you are installing or upgrading tiles, you must first determine the type of tile you have. There are various types of tiles that can be installed.

Ceramic Tiles:Ceramic tiles are made from a combination of natural clay, sand, and water. There are various production methods. Ceramic tiles are available in a variety of shapes, such as fish scale, triangular prism, subway, and the more traditional rectangle.

The tiles are set aside to dry before being baked in an oven. A glaze is frequently used to create different colors, and many of the ceramic tiles in Otto Tiles & Designs’ unique collection are hand painted with either traditional or contemporary designs. They have vibrant colors and intricate designs that will enhance the comfort of your home.

Porcelain Tiles:Porcelain tiles are made by dust-pressing, which results in a fine-grained, dense, impervious, smooth tile with a sharply formed face. They are made of Kaolin, a clay, quartz, and feldspar mixture, and must be fired at a high temperature for a longer period.

Porcelain tiles absorb less water than ceramic tiles, making them better suited for outdoor use.

Cement Tiles:Marble granules, marble powder, natural color pigments, and cement are used to make cement tiles. These are precisely weighed in the appropriate proportions and thoroughly mixed with pure water. The mould is held in place by a special machine.

Each design has its own mould, and each color is carefully placed by hand in the appropriate place in the mould. The tile is then lightly agitated, and the mould is removed. The dry cement is now mixed with the other ingredients, and the tile is placed under a high-powered press. The tiles are then allowed to dry for about a week. They are then passed through a diamond grinding machine, which soothes the surface and makes them water and stain resistant.

Terrazzo Tiles:Terrazzo tiles are made of granite and marble, as well as glass or crystal bits and a cement binder. They are manufactured in the opposite manner as decorative cement tiles.

The cement layer is laid first, followed by a sandy layer, and finally by the terrazzo layer. A roller is used to smooth out the surface. To achieve a clean, shiny, polished, and sealed surface, the tile must be thoroughly dried before being ground.
